A cartwheel-free zone

Part of me doesn’t want to post an update because I’m exhausted that my health has become such a focal point in my life. I’d love to be posting about fun trips and little adventures and other things I’m doing with my boundless energy.

But here’s the quick update: I haven’t done any cartwheels.

Everything went according to plan Monday as they patched up the hole in my heart. We got home around 8:00 p.m., and John made me a legendary grilled cheese sandwich to go with homemade tomato basil soup from a neighbor. YUM!

Me and John impatiently waiting to go home. That sky, though!

I’ve been feeling achy the past few days, and I’m not sure if it’s the lingering effects of the procedure or side effects of the new anti-platelet medication I started to prevent blood clots.

My oxygen levels are higher than they were(!), but I still have more shortness of breath than I consider “normal.” I was discouraged to learn on Monday that my white blood cell count was the highest it’s been all year, indicating infection or inflammation. I’m not surprised, really, but it’s a bummer to see the count so elevated even though I finished potent IV antibiotics less than two weeks ago.

So, next up is a chest CT scan tomorrow morning. I have a hunch it’s going to point us in the right direction which, unfortunately, probably means more antibiotics.

To close, let me talk about some things unrelated to my health:

  • Pineapple is so good. I don’t know what we did to deserve it.
  • I’ve been listening to Anderson Cooper’s “All There Is” podcast and OH MY GOSH — I recommend it for the grievers of the world! New life goal: Be on it.
  • The weather has been ON POINT. Yes, I’m talking about the weather because it’s so not Atlanta-ish. Next week has other plans, though.
  • Publix frozen yogurt is what’s up. My two favorite flavors: Key Lime Pie and Espresso Chip. Available at a Publix near you.
  • GET IT TOGETHER, BRAVES.
  • If you’ve never had a dog, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Benny is a miracle.

Thank you all for the recent outpouring of support. I have felt your love. Truly.

Benny, sleeping with one ear open to listen for sounds of food-related activity

SO GOOD to hear from you! It’s not uncommon for medical journeys to take circuitous route-as you well know from experience. Continuing to anticipate improvement.❤️
